Go into the wilderness through government or by map (sometimes it won't respond to you capturing quick enough so go by government) go into it and then click gather. After a hour to 24 hours (any longer you will not get any more than what you would get) click reap and then yes, then you get items like pearl (coral, star gem, refer to these items as gems or jewels if you will). Certain items can be found easily dependent on the place you are gathering from, hover over the area to figure that out, lakes and swamps are easiest for pearls (or so it says!).
